Japan feels like a world apart from what you left back home, thanks in part to its periodical isolationist stance where Japanese culture evolved in a bubble completely cut off from the rest of the world. Japan is now well and truly open to the wider world however, and it has quite simply managed to become one of the most technologically advanced societies in the world whilst at the same time keeping the bulk of its unique culture intact. You may not see modern company men walking round with Katana like their not so distant ancestors, but everywhere you look you will be reminded that this is still a country steeped in ancient tradition, god and ancestor worship, Buddhist beliefs and honour.
Most Japanese tend to accept the philosophies of both of these religions interchangeably. Other religions are much more uncommon in Japan. Mostly these religions play more of a cultural role than a religious one, with the rituals and practices a heavy influence on the everyday lives of the Japanese.

Backpacker in baby case allowed home from Australia Independent. A judge at the Perth Magistrate’s Court yesterday agreed to defence lawyer Karen Farley’s request that the unnamed woman be allowed to come home as she awaits her next court appearance on October 2. She was charged under a rarely-used Australian law in which it is a criminal offence not to register the birth of a baby, whether or not the baby survived. The offence carries a maximum two-year prison sentence.
The woman 25 , who was reportedly travelling Down Under with other Irish backpackers, is alleged to have concealed the birth of a baby who was either stillborn or died shortly after being born, and hid the body in her accommodation during a stopover in Hall’s Creek in the Western Australian outback in May. Days later friends quizzed her when she appeared unwell and she allegedly told them that she had given birth despite not realising she was pregnant. The court heard that the woman needs the support of her family at home after her condition worsened since she was charged with the offence.
Her mother had flown to Perth to be with her daughter but her visa expires at the end of the month. The magistrate agreed to drop the bail condition that she surrender her passport.

Traditionally, backpackers did not travel with expensive electronic equipment like laptop computers, digital cameras , and cell phones because of concerns about theft, damage, and additional luggage weight.

And yes, I did pay for a photo permit 10 lev. I have to admit to being less than impressed by the inside — it was more a kind of faded opulence; overly dark, not as rich and over-the-top as Catholic cathedrals, not as internally architecturally visually impressive as Anglican ones.
